about

Justin Stewart is a native Texan from Houston who now resides in Austin. His first solo project, Flagship, is largely inspired from living on Galveston Island just after Hurricane Ike in 2008-2009. Over the next couple of years, Stewart distilled his poetry and focused his songwriting.

The concept for the record grew as did the geography of Stewart's day job. From the coast and towards the mountain, Stewart uses environment to present folk music, often braiding landscape, relationship, and struggle.

Stewart sought out Austin icon Kevin Russell in 2011, renown for his regional and unconventional sound, in hopes of producing his growing collection of songs. Some 3 years later, captured by production master George Reiff, this co-produced record is now realized.
